Trolley Fash

Exciting news indeed, the genius that is Anna Dello Russo has designed a collection with everyone's favorite Swedes. Well everyone's favorite Swedes after Ikea that is. H&M. Not only that, and I quote from the hot-off-the-press release, the "over-the-top" collection will include a trolley. Yes a fucking trolley.
Typically absolutely bonkers yet strangely appealing. Who doesn't want an ADW trolley?! Sadly no hats though - I would kill for a replica of THAT cherry hat. Sneak peek for you x M

Man Down

So, it's been ages since I last wrote anything, clearly my resolution to write more went right out of the window and life took over. Must try harder. In my defence, moving flat, starting a new job and various life drama's have hindered any written stylings but again must try harder.

At the moment I am styling for a luxury men's magazine, not naming names and no it isn't that kind of men's magazine. Definitely no ex TOWIE girls flashing their shit boob jobs here and talking about Jermaine Defoe cheating on them. Which, slightly off point, but are you really surprised love?

However, as I've found myself becoming slowly and completely immersed in men's fashion, I've started to love it. Something that although was on my radar, had never been a focus, for obvious reasons. Don't get me wrong, I always knew my Dior Homme from my Dunhill, as any fashionista would but who knew there was such a world of different shirts and trouser cuts out there. Men's fashion is more subtle than women's, however that doesn't mean that it isn't as interesting. As a stylist, I find it more challenging. There are so many ways to style up a girl but with men you have to really know your shit to get a good shot and it look amazing on the page.

I have to confess, I've always been one to go slightly weak at the knee's for a male fashionista, David Gandy case in point. And in the past few years, men's fashion has been quietly having a revolution, with more and more labels and boutique brands springing up. Fashion is no longer just for girl's it seems. Thank fuck. Who wants to date a man wearing boot cut jeans and shiny loafers?!

What with the launch of the stand alone London Collections: MEN in June, blogs like The Sartorialist chronicling stylish men around the globe, and the high street finally catching up and starting to churn out trend led collections rather than printed tee's and terribly cut shirts, plus the rise of the pocket square and even Tinie Tempah sitting FROW at LFW shows, there really is no excuse for any man to look less than impeccable at all times.

I've even caught myself checking out men's outfits in a critical styling way rather than straight out perving. What has happened to me? I actually caught myself accessing a man's outfit yesterday and mentally dressing him in different trousers as his bottoms were too heavy for the outfit. This was previously exclusive to women only, or fit boys. And yes, all girls do it. There really is no hope for my impossibly high standards of ever being met now. And really who needs this season's Mulberry when you have a stylish man on your arm. Best accessory ever.

So on that bombshell, a bit of eye Gandy. Obviously purely to illustrate my point as a pinnacle of style and taste. Nothing to do with how he looks. At all....x M

Les Fleurs

Due to badly timed life drama that I could have done without unfurling in my life like petrol station Carnations, I seem to have missed the one day a year that Western civilisation  is supposed to be romantic to one another.
For reasons otherwise incomprehensible to my seemingly tiny mind, this can only happen on the 14th February, and no other time of the year. Lets face it, what says I love you like a giant teddy-bear and a padded yet tactfully quilted primary coloured card. Fucking hell, I sound like I just swallowed le bitter pill to end all bitter pills.
I remember my post this time last year. It involved my heart belonging to London. Still true, and true love runs deep. London is exciting, varied and often takes me by surprise. As well as fashion. My life long love, and showing no signs of the 28 (nearly 29) year itch. Maybe some things really are for life. Apart from Dogs for Christmas and Herpes that is. Anyway, nuff said.
For the record, I HATE carnations. And I heart Mary Katranzou.
Buy me flowers any which way as long as they are the Mary way...x M

Legs Eleven

I never used to be a trouser girl. Apart from the pre-requisite skinny's, trousers just never featured that strongly in my wardrobe. I blame this in part on the high street who never used to do trousers well. There was a time when all you could buy was boot cut office type trousers in drab greys and slightly shiny nylon black. And no one, not even the fashion tour de force of La Moss could pull those off with aplomb.

My moment of fashion clarity came in an amazing Paris vintage shop with the most un Gallic name ever - Come On Eileen, with the discovery of a pair of buttery soft tapered leg black leather trousers that go with everything. I would marry them if I could. After that there was no stopping me. Trousers are now my BFF. And an instant way to update my spring wardrobe (not that it feels anywhere close to spring at the moment) are these little beauties from Zara. Ticking off some key trends - pyjama pants and prints in one fell swoop. Sleepwear is the next big thing, a look that my ultimate style crushes, The Olsen's have been championing for years.

I'll definitely be rocking these bad boys at FW, with studded clogs, a fine Acne cashmere knit, oversize clutch and my faithful battered up leather jacket, all topped of with copious amounts of gold jewellery. Prints please. x M

FW

I am so excited for the start of Fashion Month. Imagine a child with ADHD jacked up on a heady mix of sugar and meth and you might be halfway there to describing my current mood.

New York, London, Milan, Paris. They roll off my tongue like a uber stylish mantra. I can not wait to see what some of favourite's will have walking down the catwalk for AW12/13.

Looking back to SS12, this had to be my hands down favourite look (not to mention show.) The pure intricate simplicity, tailored silhouette and tough take on the floral trend, not to mention THAT peplum. In a word. Beautiful. The genius that is Alexander McQueen. Take a bow. x M

Karl Who?

Eight days to go till Karl, the new diffusion line from Monsieur Karl Lagerfeld launches at Net-a-Porter.
I have a feeling I should probably stay far far away from my Macbook and any internet based shopping on the 25th January. Then again, I have never been one to do as I was told. A bit more of a sneak peek...

That pleated leather skirt and sweater combo are mine, all mine......x M

Silver Fox

I'm not sure I should say this out loud, it's completely un PC nowadays but I have to confess I do love a good animal pelt. In fact I am unashamed to admit it. Especially when it's as icy cold as it is in London this week. There is something deliciously decadent about wrapping up in a beautiful fur coat and going out into the unknown.

My Mother has an enviable collection of fur, some of which I have managed to inherit. My coat for today - beautiful silvery grey Artic Fox. From the 70's. I felt very Bianca Jagger meets Studio 54. It made me feel like I should hang around with tortured muscians, in a similar vein (excuse the pun) to Kate Moss/Pete Doherty. Without the smack.

It got me thinking though, should you ever buy new fur?

Alot of designers use fur in their collections, in fact it has become a staple again in the past few years to have in a mainline collection. There was a time when it was fashionable to not use fur, and every supermodel stripped off for PETA.

I think over the past few seasons, the tide has turned against fast fashion to buying investment pieces. Buying a fur is a definite investment.  My Mum's is still going strong from 1970, which is no mean feat. I doubt the same can be said for a Primarni coat in 40 years time.

Having done a quick poll of friends, even those who are vegetarians, it seems that the census is as long as it's vintage, it's ok. Is this a double standard, or is it a very eco-friendly and thrifty way to look at fashion, recycling an item that would otherwise go to waste.

For me it has fuck all to do with wanting to save the world, and all about the aesthetics and beauty of the garment. Fashion should transform, and I defy anyone to put on a fur and not feel even a touch of the Joan Collins. x M

Londres Part Deux

Bit of East End graffiti from my travels innit.....

First outing with my new Olympus and lost the lens cap somewhere in E1. Winner! x M

Londres

is freezing this morning. I love sunny winter days, any excuse to break out the Wayfarer and Beanie hat combo.

This Sunday will mainly involve Brick Lane/Roast/walk over the Thames/Design Museum/attempting to use my Olympus properly/Breakfast at Tiffany's. Perfect. x M

FIT

And you know it. Mmm just need to find an extra £4k and I'll be all over this Oscar de la Renta. Despite my lack of funds have already styled it up in my head with my grungy leather jacket, battered up Prada shoe boots, beanie hat and ankle socks. Grunge meets Glamour. My favorite x M
